In this How To Video, we look at how a remote contributor would use Rivet on an iOS device. We walk through audio and video settings as well as recording options and what happens once you start your broadcast.
The Rivet App allows contributors to join streams from all around the world. The app is available on Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android.
Open the app on your iPhone and paste in the Rivet ID.
The Rivet App has dropdown menus to select a Video Source and Audio Source.
Video Sources can include a built-in camera or an external camera.
Audio Sources include the built-in microphone, external microphones, and Bluetooth devices,
Toggle on Record to save a recording of the stream on your device.
Recordings will be saved to the Photos app. You’ll get a prompt the first time you enable recording on the app to allow Rivet to access your photos. Select Allow Access to All Photos. You only need to do this once.
Click on the Settings tab at the bottom of the screen to adjust the stream settings.
You can control the following settings:
- Channel Count
- Audio Bitrate
- Sample Rate
- Stream Resolution
- Video Stabilization
- Video Bitrate
- Frame Rate
- Keyframe Frequency
- Codec
- Contributor Feed Latency
- Program Feed Latency
- Recording Resolution
- Recording Video Bitrate
- Noise Suppression
Click on Rivet Info / Information to see the:
- Contributor Feed IP Address
- Program Feed IP Address
- Encryption Passphrase
- Stream ID
You can hide this tab in the stream settings in Rivet Dashboard.
Click on Start Broadcast to start the stream.
The Contributors Feed will fill the preview screen. Audio meters are displayed on the left side of the screen.
Click on the Microphone icon beneath the meters to mute the mic.
Mic gain can be adjusted with the scale above the meters. Drag the cursor to the right to increase the gain. Drag the cursor to the left to decrease the gain.
Click on Stop Video to hide the video feed.
The lower menu bar displays the Input/Output Type, Stream Status, Current Bitrate, Current Frame Rate, Latency, CPU, Stream Duration, and Recording Status.
Click Stop Broadcast to stop the stream from the app.
You can also end the stream from the stream settings in Rivet Dashboard by clicking on the Stop button.
If a Program Feed is enabled, the Contributor Cam will appear in a PIP window on the left side of the screen. The Program Feed will fill the rest of the display. Click on Hide My Video to hide the Contributor Cam.
The menu bar will display the status and statistics of both feeds.
Program Feed-only streams will immediately start the playback stream after adding the Rivet ID.
